How to get the most out of our community

Sometimes, you get stuck while playing KC7. In fact, you will almost certainly get stuck - it's part of the process. That's why we create create a community of KC7 players on discord that can help you get unstuck.

You can join the KC7 discord at https://kc7cyber.com/community

We’re always here to help, but it takes time and effort to respond thoughtfully. You can make it easier for us and support the KC7 community by keeping these guidelines in mind:

  1. Post in the Right Channel: Each channel is dedicated to a different topic. Use the correct one to make it easier for both helpers and others with similar questions to find answers. For example, post question for th "Rap Beef" module in the #rapbeef channel, and questions for the "Valdoria" module in the #valdoria chaneell. Post your question in the dedicated channel and allow time for a response.

  2. Be Detailed and Clear: When asking for help, the more detail you provide, the better. Share information about what part of the game or challenge you’re working on and what you’re trying to achieve. Instead of saying, “It’s not working,” try something like, “I’m working on Challenge 5 Section 3 in Valdoria and trying to run a KQL query to find login anomalies, but my query returns an empty result. Am I on the right path”

  3. Tell Us What You’ve Tried: This prevents helpers from suggesting steps you’ve already attempted. If you’ve checked specific data sources or tries certain pivots, let us know. For example, say, “I tried looking in ProcessEvents for the malicious process, but I don't see anything that stands out”

  4. Share Your Thought Process: Often, knowing why you made certain decisions helps us understand your approach. This context can reveal insights about where things might have gone off track. For instance, “I thought filtering by ‘login_type’ would show only successful logins, but now I realize I may have misunderstood the field names.”

  5. Provide Context Over Raw Information: Instead of pasting a screenshot or a single query with no explanation, take a moment to describe what you’re looking for. For example, “Here’s my query to find user login spikes, but I’m not sure if it’s filtering out unsuccessful attempts correctly.”

  6. Understand the Journey Matters: In KC7, arriving at the solution is often about the journey of learning and discovery. Explain how you’re approaching the challenge, even if you’re stuck. We’re here to guide you, not just to provide answers.

  7. Ask Thoughtful Questions: Practice asking clear, specific questions. Instead of, “What do I do next?” try, “I’ve identified the malicious IP, but I’m unsure how to correlate it with the recent suspicious login events. Could someone guide me on connecting these pieces?”
