This section answers frequently asked questions to help you confidently plan and run the camp.


🧒 Who is this camp for?

Designed for students in grades 5–8, this program targets those with little to no prior cybersecurity experience. It is suitable even for students as young as 9 years old, and no coding knowledge is required.

📅 How long is the camp?

The standard format is 5 days, each day running 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. However, it can be adapted to shorter formats such as 3-day workshops, after-school clubs, or single-day events.


💻 What technology is required?

  • A computer or Chromebook with a modern browser

  • Reliable internet connection

  • No software installation is needed; KC7 runs in the browser

Optional:

  • Projector/screen for group briefings

  • Printer for physical game assets (if using artifacts or clue sheets)


🎮 What is KC7?

KC7 is a game-based cybersecurity learning platform. Students play as cyber defenders investigating real-world inspired incidents—using realistic logs, data, and tools to solve mysteries.


🕵️ What will students actually be doing?

  • Playing through interactive cyber incident scenarios (being cyber detectives!)

  • Asking questions, gathering clues, and analyzing data

  • Working in teams with distinct roles (Analyst, Investigator, Presenter)

  • Writing conclusions and presenting findings to an audience


🧠 What skills does this camp teach?

  • Critical thinking and attention to detail

  • Communication and teamwork

  • Digital literacy and basic threat analysis

  • Confidence in technical environments

  • A mindset of ethical curiosity and problem-solving


📖 Do I need to be a cybersecurity expert to run this?

No! The camp is designed for facilitators with minimal cyber experience. The materials include clear scripts, walkthroughs, and example investigations. Your job is to guide and encourage—not to lecture.


🛠️ What if something goes wrong or students get stuck?

Every camp includes:

  • Facilitator notes with troubleshooting tips

  • Optional camp counselor guides for teen volunteers

  • Built-in game hints in KC7 to help students progress

  • Daily reflection sessions to reset and re-engage


🧩 Can I customize the schedule or scenarios?

Absolutely. While we recommend following the structure at least once, you’re encouraged to:

  • Substitute your own mystery games

  • Add more breaks or icebreakers

  • Adjust difficulty for older/younger students

  • Translate instructions or adapt visuals for accessibility


🏆 What happens at the end?

On the final day, students:

  • Deliver group presentations explaining their investigation

  • Participate in a graduation ceremony
